Hi team, On the weekend we travelled to Mankele MTB park to participate in the 3 Towers stage race. Arrived to cool conditions and it stayed like that throughout the weekend, great racing weather! With the season ending soon these stage races are the last big push for what has been an amazing season. We had a great time and Philip celebrated his Birthday on Saturday. See LINK for a short “Raw” recap of weekend :) - https://youtu.be/GrEtxbVAl3I Also thank you Kevin from Recover4you SA, we tested their compression pants for recovery this weekend and the guys loved it. Matthys Beukes - Win all 3 stages and Overall After a really nice weekend at York Timbers Enduro with many of you guys I returned home for some final training before the last few races of the season.. Training though didn't go according to plan as I got the flu and had to take an easy week but I did what I could and hoped for the best. With not many teams present at 3 Towers it would be a two team (4 horse) race between us and NAD Pro MTB. The plan was to take it as easy as possible to check things out and see where our shape is. Day 1 ended with us getting around 20 seconds on them but we were more happy to see that our shape will be good enough to take the win if we can stay clear of bad luck. Day 2 came down to a sprint where Phil and Gawie went up the road to leave me and Nico dice it out. I had a great plan and used some skill to gain a few seconds that stayed that way to the line. Day 3 we knew that they would try everything to make up the slender disadvantage of 20 seconds. We rode smart and covered all their moves and it came down to another sprint where Phil and Gawie would shout out. Phil got the gap on him and made it 3/3 and sealing the overall. Thanks to Ruan, Matt and Phil for the good times, it really is a pleasure to work with you guys! Also to our sponsors, its been a very successful year for us and thanks for making it possible! Looking forward to top it off on a high note with only 3 more events for 2017. Philip Buys - Win all 3 stages and Overall
The last time we did Mankele 3 Towers was in 2014 and it is still one of the season favorites. The climbs were solid and you were properly rewarded with sweet trails after each one. Hospitality and food was great and I would recommend this race as the perfect introduction to mountain bike stage racing. On the serious side of things, we managed to win all three stages and secure the overall victory. We raced with different style and tactics than usual, with the idea in mind not to stuff ourselves up too much so that we can be fresher for Berg & Bush this next weekend. We did not do more than what was needed to win and we are a bit less keen to suffer this time of year. Thanks to the whole team for making my birthday on the Saturday a special occasion. On to one of the next season favourites at Berg & Bush.
